A TechBeat survey, conducted with Sidero, found that 27% of Irish organisations have set carbon neutrality goals for 2030. The survey of 111 IT decision-makers highlighted the growing role of sustainability in business decisions, with 44% factoring it into operations and 35% adjusting their supply chains. However, 19% of tech leaders still do not prioritise sustainability, and 42% have yet to measure their carbon emissions.
Key findings include:
- 31% of businesses plan to increase usage of sustainable technologies within a year.
- Cloud adoption is seen as a way to reduce carbon footprints, with Irish enterprises expected to invest an average of €883,000 in cloud and digital technologies.
- Digital transformation (67%), automation (47%), and AI (31%) are also key areas of investment.
- Challenges include outdated cloud strategies (19%), skill shortages, and concerns over security and complexity in multicloud environments. Many businesses face issues with scaling due to a lack of in-house technical skills, prompting them to hire contractors or outsource support.
- There are concerns over the tech industry’s representation and talent pool. Around 62% of IT leaders call for more investment outside of Dublin, while 83% believe more collaboration with schools is needed to encourage women into STEM careers.
